To the east of the central city area is a commercial district spreading out around Sapporo Convention Center, and to the south lies Nakajima Park where local residents take breaks and visit the city's magnificent Kitara Concert Hall. To the west is an arts district with galleries and museums, and the north is dominated by the sprawling, leafy campus of the University of Hokkaido. Running through the heart of the city like a green ribbon, is Odori Park - popular with both local residents and tourists throughout the year, and the location for numerous events including the world famous Sapporo Snow Festival and International Jazz Festival.
