Despite Sapporo being one of Japan's largest cities, just a few minutes travel into the surrounding area will lead you to a vast and picturesque natural landscape. Lake Shikotsuko, which is said to be one of the clearest lakes in Japan, is about one hour by car, and the Niseko area, which is popular for world class skiing and outdoor sports, is about a 2 hour journey.
